Facebook has launched a new OS overlay known as Facebook Home for Android mobile phones. According to company sources, it is not exactly a Mobile OS but it is not a regular mobile application it is more than just a simple mobile app, soon Facebook Home will replace the old mobile application for android phones and it will provide users a better experience of the social networking site because of full-screen photos, status updates and notifications.
Once the user launches Facebook Home on their mobile phone, it will replace the home screen with the Facebook “Cover Feed” and it will load the updates from users account i.e. updates from his/her friends etc
However, the bad news is that the ads will show up like they do on regular web version, but facebook has assured users that they are designing the ad slots for facebook home as well and hopefully they’ll launch the new layout soon.
Facebook Home will be available for free download on Google Play Store, users can start downloading facebook home from April 12, it is compatible with Jelly Bean, Ice Cream Sandwich powered android phones, it will not work on Gingerbread.
The Facebook Home will work currently only on these mobile phones:
- HTC: One X & One X+
- Samsung: Galaxy S III and Note II.
And it will also be functional on new handsets like HTC one and Samsung Galaxy S4 along with other devices that are soon to be launched, facebook still hasn’t announced whether it will be available on iOS or not. However, the company did announce a tablet version of facebook home that will run on tablets running android os.
